Let Me Catch My Breath

By Arctic Lady

Let me catch my breath.
Please,
let me breathe for just a while.
I feel so weak
for the Power of Love.

We are dancing,
wooden planks feel cold to our bare feet.
Chinese lanterns in all their colors
swinging in the wind,
like I am swinging in your arms,
and your hands are so strong
holding my waist.

The moon is new
fragile and hopeful like this -
this new sensation of your fingers
on my shoulder blades.
The palms sigh in the sea breeze
and I sigh words I didn't know existed
before this moment.

The song changes
but we don't change,
still holding each other,
body heat burning through clothes.
Look at me, you say,
and I try
but I don't get past your lips.
A tender little smile
is what I see
before you kiss me.

Hold me tighter,
more, more, or I swear
my knees can't carry me any longer.
That's all right,
you whisper against my hair,
I'll carry you then.

And my feet are no longer on the ground
if they ever were,
ever since we started dancing.
With a mischievous smile on your face
you carry me up the stairs
and open the door.
The bed is soft,
your eyes hold a promise
of pleasure
yet to be discovered.
